Wilbert “Doc” Eddie Luke, 68, succumbed to cancer on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, after a long courageous five-year battle.Born in Ogden, Utah on October 7, 1951 to Louise Kinsey Luke and Edward “Eddie” Luke. Wilbert attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High in 1969. He attended Weber State College and then went on to work as a truck driver for IML. He then went on to work at Thiokol and was a member of Teamsters before taking an early retirement.“Cool Hand Luke” was known for his skills on the baseball field hence the nickname. If you knew Wilbert you would always catch him at many sporting events up and down the Wasatch Front. He always supported the local athletes and could give you their stat line before it was published in the paper. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and most importantly being with his loved ones.Wilbert married Martha Reynolds in April 1981 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, born to this union were three children. Wilbert and Martha later divorced but remained close friends.He is survived by his children; Wilbert “Doc” Luke (Mackenzie), Portland, OR; Julius “JuJu” Luke and Jada Luke, both of Ogden, UT. Granddaughter E’moni Luke, Ogden, UT. Sister Gwen Luke Shepherd and nephew Eddie Shepherd, both of Albuquerque, NM. Brother-in-law Dennis Reynolds, Salt Lake City, UT Special Sister and Brother-in-law Elaine and Morty Albritton, South Ogden, UT. Best Friend and Brother, Lentor Nash, San Diego, CA. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends.Preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, and a nephew.Memorial service in his honor will be held at Second Baptist Church on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Internment at Ogden City Cemetery to immediately follow.In lieu of flowers an account at Mountain America Credit Union for Wilbert “Doc” Luke has been set up to help offset some of the cost.The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Vincent and Marie Hansen for their care of Wilbert over the course of his cancer battle.
