J Burton Dickson passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2017. He was born in Ogden, Utah to Forde Dickson and Elma B Whitesides of Morgan, Utah. He graduated from Morgan High School in 1947. He enjoyed playing basketball, football and loved baseball. He was such a great baseball player that he was scouted out by the Boston Red Sox. He supported himself while attending Weber College. He married his sweetheart Helen Elaine James in 1948, together they had 11 children. He sold insurance before finding his true calling in the construction business. He worked as a superintendent of construction on many churches, offices, commercial, and industrial buildings. He worked in this trade for over five decades in Utah, California and Hawaii. After retiring, he purchased the family farm in Morgan, which was homesteaded in 1862. He raised goats and sheep there until his death.He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including a stake mission. He was pleased that eight of his eleven children served LDS missions across the globe. In addition to his children, he has had 41 of his posterity serve LDS missions throughout the world and currently has four serving. Four members of his posterity have served or are currently serving in the military. He was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, enjoyed golfing, writing poetry, drawing pictures and had a talent for telling captivating and very entertaining stories.He has 54 grandchildren, 120 great-grandchildren and 5 more on the way, plus 2 great-great grandchildren. He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 69 years, Elaine and children, Kathleen (Lou) Best, Farr West, UT; Irene (Bill) Workman, Ogden, UT; Douglas (Tym) Dickson, Liberty, UT; Nathan (Robyn) Dickson, Kaysville, UT; Andrew Dickson, Ogden, UT; Karen (Milton) Witt, Taylorsville, UT; Maureen (Mark) Crump, Cody, WY; George (Stephanie) Dickson, Kaysville, UT; John (Jenny) Dickson, Cody, WY; Sharon (Craig) Dahl, Logan, UT; deceased David Forde Dickson. He is also survived by his siblings; Paul (Romona) Dickson, Morgan, UT; Lois (Frank) Anderson, Milton, UT; Stephen (Jean) Dickson, Morgan, UT; David (Eleanor) Dickson, Meadow Vista, CA; Suzann (Kent deceased) Garner, Gilbert, AZ; and Jane (Brent) Rasmussen, Morgan, UT.He was preceded in death by his parents, his son David Forde Dickson, three grandsons, David Eastman Dickson, James Bennett Dickson, and James Buckly Workman.The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Dustin Child and Alpha Hospice for their tender loving care.Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2017 with a viewing prior 11:30-12:30p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1050 E 21st Street, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 5:30-8:00p.m. at the same location. Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Dickson Family Missionary Fund at America First Credit Union or to the General Missionary fund of the Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints.
