Eugene Carl Kerr II, 64, passed away January 26, 2016 at Legacy Village Memory Care Center after an arduous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born April 23, 1951 in Los Angeles, California to Eugene Carl and Ellen Bernice Brown Kerr. He was raised in Montebello, California where he attended Montebello schools and graduated from Montebello High School with the class of 1969.He married Susan Ann Moody on December 18, 1971 for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They started off their married life in Montebello and shortly thereafter they moved to Hacienda Heights, California in 1976 where they raised their 4 children.Education was very important to Gene and he furthered his education by attending UCLA on a full baseball scholarship where he received his Bachelors of Science degree. He continued on to Whittier College where he earned his Master’s Degree.Gene retired from the Montebello Unified School District after serving in many capacities in the district. He began by serving as a Physical Education Teacher at Suva Intermediate and then on to Montebello Intermediate as Assistant Principal and then to Greenwood Elementary School where he served as Principal. He then went to La Merced Intermediate School where he served as Principal and was then asked to serve at the District Office as the Assistant Superintendent. Gene always wanted to finish his career by working in the schools so he left the District Office to serve as Principal back at La Merced Intermediate School. He undoubtedly touched many children with his encouragement to do good in school and to be good citizens in their community.Gene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many of the auxiliary originations of the church including Primary, Young Men’s Organization and Sunday School. He also served as Ward Organist and as the High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President, as a counselor in the Bishopric, as a member of the Stake High Council and as a Stake Clerk. He found his most joy serving in the church where he was working with the youth.Gene was a lover of the water. Anything that involved the water you would often find Gene. Whether it be sitting out on the beach in his chair enjoying the sunshine, or in the Hot Tub, House Boating or on the Sea Doo out wherever he could. He loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with his family including trips to Switzerland, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Estonia, Finland Scotland, the Bahamas and Hawaii. He also loved to read anything about History and also Clancy Novels and watching a good John Wayne Movie.Gene was a very quiet and private man but had a spontaneous sense of humor but was always serious when it mattered.He is survived by his Wife Susie; Children: Bryan Eugene Kerr (Lisa), Jodie Ann Hendricks (Steve), Kelly John Kerr (Nicole) and Becky Kristen Zamora (Gustavo); his adoring grandchildren: Preston, Taylor, Dallin, Kailee, Hunter, Bryson, Mason, Kora, Tylie, Mylie, Kelci, Skylar and Kenzie. He was preceded in death by his parents.The family would like to express appreciation to the many family and friends for their support and also to Brighton Hospice and the Staff at Legacy Village Memory Care of Taylorsville for their care of Gene.Private Graveside Services were held at the South Jordan City Cemetery, South Jordan, UT following a family viewing. Memorial Services will be held in Hacienda Heights, California on March 19, 2016. The time and location will be announced at a later date.
