Alan D Archibald
June 6, 1965 – November 15, 2025

Alan D Archibald passed away before sunrise on Saturday, November 15th, 2025, with his devoted wife, Lindsay by his side. He suffered for five long years from ALS but thankfully has now found peace in the new and restored path that awaits him.

Alan was born on June 6, 1965, in Smithfield, Utah, where he spent his childhood. As he loved to tell his kids, he was already up before dawn milking cows by the age of nine. He spent countless cherished hours galloping and working with horses alongside his Grandpa Doc. He later drove a tractor in Clarkston which cemented his identity as a “farm boy.”

Alan was very involved as a Sky View High School Bobcat. He ran track, played basketball, and enjoyed taking the stage in all the school musicals. His passion for the outdoors began in his childhood. He loved working on the farm, snow skiing at Beaver Mountain, and hunting with his father. Activities with family meant a great deal to Alan. He enjoyed water skiing together, a sport that was probably the pinnacle of activities he enjoyed with loved ones. Alan owned a boat before he owned a home. You can ask anyone in his family what he used to say about a man without a boat.

Alan married Rachel Bassett in October of 1987, and together they had Jessica. They were later divorced. Alan married Lindsay Mismash in February of 2000, becoming an immediate father to another daughter, Lydia. In the years that followed, Alan and Lindsay had Katrina, Luke, and Peter. Alan continued the traditions in which he grew up by raising his own children on the slopes of Beaver Mountain, despite living in Farmington. Always the consummate boat man, he loved taking his family and friends to Lake Powell. He was his best self when he was having fun, teaching others how to water ski and snow ski. He worked hard to play harder.

Alan developed a talent in contractor work and craftsmanship, always learning and moving up in his career. In the early days his kids would accompany him on jobs to putty holes or remove screws. He also faithfully served in the Scouting program and was a proud “dry” Eagle Scout, never having been able to master floating on his back. He loved to think up pranks and had many peculiar, sometimes inappropriate sayings. He was real and authentic, and his family loved him for that.

Alan faced many battles throughout his life with courage and resilience. Addiction and ALS were challenges he fought with remarkable strength until the very end. His family extends deep gratitude to the A+ Hospice staff, specifically nurse Rachel, the ALS Association, the Lees Foundation, the Will Hardy Foundation, and Team Gleason for their compassion and support. We could not have done it without all of you.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Theron Archibald; his brother, Doug Archibald; sister-in-law Wendy Archibald; and his grandparents. Turtle, his beloved and faithful canine companion, passed away the morning after Alan.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret; his devoted wife, Lindsay; daughter Jessica (Nik), and their children Bronx, Bodhi, and Millie; daughter Lydia (Carson); daughter Katrina and her daughter Isha Rose; and sons Luke and Peter; his brothers Lyle, Scott (Terri), Greg (Mandi), and sister-in-law Sharla (Matt).

Alan loved to pray for snow and we hope he is skiing in heaven.
